Remembering Meredith Emerson

While I didn't know Meredith Emerson her disappearance and the subsequent news of her death really shook me up. Eyewitness accounts said that Emerson's alleged murderer was able to get close to her because his dog and her dog were interacting with each other on the north Georgia trail where she was last seen.

That is one thng about having a dog and visiting parks and trails; you tend to let your guard down with people who are also dog owners/lovers because of that common bond. I read somewhere in the coverage of Emerson's disappearance that she probably would not have spoken with Hilton if she'd met him on the street but since they both had dogs she likely let the stranger get close to her.

I walk our dog in the morning darkness (we usually leave the house about 6:15am) and our route takes us through an empty field and past several completely unlit areas such as an overpass several blocks from our house. Some mornings I look into the darkness and wonder if anyone is there, and wonder what would I do if someone approached us from the darkness. If someone approached us and they were walking with a dog I know my guard would be lower than if they were alone.

Blog Grammar

The grammar mistakes in this quiz tend to bother me.

You Scored an A

You got 10/10 questions correct.

It's pretty obvious that you don't make basic grammatical errors.
If anything, you're annoyed when people make simple mistakes on their blogs.
As far as people with bad grammar go, you know they're only human.
And it's humanity and its current condition that truly disturb you sometimes.

RIP Dame Roddick

Dame Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, has died of a major brain hemorrhage. I fell in love with The Body Shop back in the early 90s and had met Dame Roddick twice since then; once at an Amnesty International conference and once at a book signing.

She was ahead of her time as an environmentalist, human rights activist and entrepreneur. She lived and worked with passion and with the commitment to do the right thing. She introduced the world to the idea of combining green consumerism with education on social issues, she was a true pioneer.

Thanks for everything you've given to this world. RIP.

Disgusting

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/08/16/vick/index.html

I understand the whole issue of innocent until proven guilty but if he's considering a plea well then, sounds guilty to me. It's appalling to me that he's concerned about how a guilty plea would affect his future in the NFL. Are you kidding me Vick? You should be ashamed to show your face in public.

Odd Anniversary

Today's an odd anniversary. Five years ago today I received a dreaded call from my neurologist. "Your MRI results confirm that you have MS." I didn't even know what MS was at the time. I asked if that I meant I was going to be one of Jerry's kids.

So here I am five years later. The five year mark is an important milestone for alot of medical conditions. You hear about five year remissions in people living with cancer. It's similar with MS. How someone with MS is doing at their five year mark often determines how their future will be. So today is bittersweet for me. I can't imagine living the rest of my life with the constant tingling, fatigue and vision problems that I've got but it could be alot worse. Some people start to decline rapidly and nothing stops it.

I've been sitting at work today thinking that I should somehow commemorate today, it's kind of a big day, so this is it. Some random thoughts.
